Carpets are a fantastic addition to any home. Not only do they add colour, reduce noise & heat loss, and are soft and cosy, but they are actually good for your health. Carpets act as a filter to help trap and hold nasties such as dust mites and other allergy inducing micro irritants like pollens, mould and fungus spores, bacteria, chemical pollutants and other various dirt and debris. This means they aren't flying about in the air and being breathed in by you.
On the down side all that dust and debris in your carpets, and in particular abrasive particles like sand, accelerate the wear of your carpet. Constantly walking back and forth across your carpet helps to grind that sandy soil in to the fibres, wearing them away.
As with any filter, eventually it fills up and stops working. Vacuuming regularly can greatly reduce this effect but it won't get rid of all of it. Why doesn't vacuuming alone do the job? Well, have you started to notice darker areas where you walk more regularly? These "traffic lanes" absorb oily residue from the air, accidental spills and the soles of your shoes and this in turn starts "sticking" the soil to the carpet. If left too long the combination of oils, dirt and chemicals can start to discolour the carpet fibres permanently. Step 1 - Pre-inspection
In order to properly manage our clients expectations and to give a realistic assessment of what can be achieve by having your carpets professionally cleaned, we undertake a pre-inspection on the majority of the jobs we quote for. This involves visiting your property to view your carpets and assess the fibre composition, age, wear, level of soiling and nature of pre-existing stains. From this information we can much more accurately determine what can be achieved and at what cost. This way you are fully aware of what results to expect once your clean has taken place.
Step 2 - Vacuuming
The first and most important process of any carpet cleaning is to vacuum all carpets to be cleaned. Up to 70% of soil in carpets is dry and can be readily vacuumed. We use commercial upright vacuum cleaners with a rotating brush that not only helps dislodge dry soil, but is very effective at removing pet hairs from your carpet.
Step 3 - Stain removal
We assess any prominent stains present on your carpet and apply the correct stain spotter necessary to most effectively and safely lift out the stain. Most stains can be removed if treated early enough and providing the stain has not damaged the carpet fibres. For example ammonia in urine and bleach based stains may be permanent.
Step 4 - Pre-spray
Using a pressure sprayer we apply pre-spray detergent to your carpet. This process helps to loosen the remaining soil from the surface of the carpet fibres and draw it to the surface. This greatly improves the effectiveness of the extraction process and maximises the amount of soil that can be removed from your carpet.
Step 5 - Agitation
We use a commercial agitator with contra-rotating brushes to agitate and work the pre-spray into your carpet paying particular attention traffic lanes and any other heavily soiled areas. Once thoroughly agitated we leave the pre-spray time to dwell for maximum effect.
Step 6 - Cleaning & rinsing
Using a powerful hotwater extraction machine, we rinse the soil and detergent out of your carpet. The process works by injection very hot water into the carpet and almost immediately sucking that water, along with the pre-sprayed detergent and dissolved soil back into the machine. This leaves your carpet fresh, clean and only lightly damp. Our machines use powerful dual vacuum pumps, which leave your carpet barely damp and means the drying time can be as little as a few hours.
Step 7 - Carpet grooming
On all pile carpets we take the time to groom the pile using special carpet grooming rakes. This sets the pile straight after cleaning, which greatly aids the drying time, and also the overall look of the carpet.
Step 8 - Potective tabs
Where furniture is present in the rooms we clean, after moving it back to its original position, we place protective tabs under and wooden or metal legs. This stops any chance of wood or rust staining the damp carpet and leaving unsightly marks on your freshly cleaned carpet.
Step 9 - Turbo drying
In most instances our cleaning techniques leave your carpets nearly dry and no further artificial drying is required. However during the winter and were adequate ventilation in not possible, we will occasionally use turbo air movers to speed up the drying time, allowing you quick access back into your rooms.
Step 10 - Follow up
We always follow up our cleans with a telephone call or email to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. In the unlikely event that the clean hasn't worked out to your satifaction we will always try to rectify any issues where possible and are always happy to revisit a clean if we've missed anything or could have done a better job.
